Breitling Pluton Side Project
We love a side project! Given that we’ve got a lot of kit on the shelf, it seems only right to have a play with it on occasion. We’ve had one of Laowa’s fantastic 90mm Macro lenses for a while now and we’ve been really impressed with its 2:1 capabilities. Most Macros are either 1:1 or less but the 2:1 image (ie double the size) that we can get from this prime lens means it’s possible to get some really close and interesting shots. This time we filmed a vintage Breitling watch and with some creative lighting were able to see all the knocks and scratches it’s sustained over the years but still retaining its inherent beauty.

You don’t need a huge setup for product shoots like this but being able to control the light is a must. We like to lean into the drama of the shots by using a single big source that really picks out all the intricate details of watches and jewellery. Combine static shots with some mini dollies and rail set ups and you’re onto something really creative!
Top Three Requirements
-
- Create unusual imagery.
-
- Highlight textures and find beauty in defects.
-
- Create a mini edit from the shots.
